· In 1874, Félix du Temple de la Croix, from France was first to take off of a manned and powered aircraft. By using a sloping ram, he resulted in a flight with a few feet off the ground.
· What he flew was called a monoplane. It basically is a large plane with is made of Aluminium.

· In 1883, John Joseph Montgomery from the US, First controlled a glider flight from a hillside near Otay, California.

· In 1856, Jean-Marie Le Bris from France was the first to fly higher than his departure. Having his glider pulled up by a horse on the beach against the wind.
· Jean-Marie Le Bris, at first was a sea sailor. He sailed the world observing the albatross. Even though he sailed, he wanted to fly. He caught some of the birds while sailing so he observed their wings so he could make a glider.
